Under sunny skies the Bertil Roos Race Series returned to BeaveRun for the first time in a number of years and the racing didn’t disappoint.
Group 1 Race 1:
The front row was set in Group 1 with Tim Nichols starting on pole and Glenn Brooks in second. The top 5 in this race would stay very close to each other the whole race leading to some great racing action as well as having battle all the way through the field. For the first 3 laps the lead was swapped between Tim and Glenn, but Kevin Anderson would remain close. On lap 4 Kevin would pass Glenn for 2nd and then on the next lap pass Tim for the lead. On lap 7 Glenn would pass Tim for 2nd and set up what would be a very exciting finish. On the last lap Glenn would pass Kevin for the lead and hold it to the end. Tim would stay close to the front 2 while Zane Gibbs and Alastair McEwan would remain close waiting for their opportunity. Special mentions in Group 1 go to Jim Stout who had a close race with Earl Ihrie and Tom Nee with his good race with Peter Strasser.
Group 1 Race 2:
At the start of the race it was Jim Stout getting a great start to move up to 4th. At the front a close battle would resume between Kevin and Glenn with Tim staying in contact in 3rd. Jim would come under fire however from Alastair who would overtake him on Lap 2 and then Zane Who would overtake Jim on lap 6. These positions would hold to the end with the exception of the front 2. Kevin and Glenn would battle the whole race with Kevin being listed at the line of leading all the laps but 1. On the last lap Glenn made his move and made it stick to collect his second win in a row in the series for 2011.
Group 2 Race 1:
Qualifying set a close field for Group 2 where the top 4 were separated by .3 of a second with the front row consisting of Dave Long on pole and the Bertil Roos’ own John Twardzik in 2nd. At the start it was John that made the move and went around the outside of Dave in Turn 1 to take the early lead. Behind them Paul Alspach and Toulouse Lafond would stay close. On lap 2 John would be passed by Dave for the lead but would re-pass Dave on Lap 4 to take back the lead which he would hold to the end. Behind John however things were picking up. On lap 7 Paul would overtake Dave for 2nd and Steve Darrah would pass Andrea Giusti for 5th. On lap 10 Dave would re-pass Paul for 2nd and hold it to the end setting up an exciting Race 2.
Group 2 Race 2:
At the start of Race 2 John didn’t get a great start and the top 3 went 3 wide into turn 1 with John coming out best followed by Paul and then Dave. Paul would stay close enough to get a draft off of John and pass going into Turn 10 with a great move. John came under pressure now from Dave and on the next lap Dave would look down the inside into Turn 1 only to have John hold him off on the outside to keep 2nd. On lap 4 the lead would change again going into Turn 1 with John passing Paul for the lead which he held till the end. The battle for 3rd was turning into another good one with Dave and Toulouse. Toulouse would pass Dave for 3rd on Lap 10 but Dave would get him back on Lap 12. Behind this the race for 5th was raging all race long with Andrea, Steve and Joe Homa. Andrea would hold 5th till Lap 8 when Steve would pass for the spot. Joe on Lap 10 would pass for 6th and then on the last lap Joe would pass Steve for 5th.
