Bertil Roos Race Series: Lightning Circuit NJMP (Race 5)

Blakeslee, PA
August 11, 2011

Crossing the halfway point of the season the Bertil Roos Racing School returned to NJMP for its 5th event of the season on the fast Lightning Circuit.
Group 1 Race 1:
Group 1 saw Kevin Anderson taking pole position from Dave Long by only a tenth of a second with the rest of the field being stacked very close behind setting up what would be a very close race. At the start it was Dave who took the advantage and would lead the first lap. On lap 2 however it was Kevin that would make the move to seal a Race 1 win. Behind however was very close racing. Dave would be caught, but hold onto 2nd, but a charging Toulouse Lafond, Alastair McEwan, and Paul Alspach. Toulouse held 3rd place until lap 3 when Alastair passed going into turn 1 for 3rd and on lap 7 would come under fire from Paul and on lap 8 be overtaken for 4th.  Toulouse would eventually run afoul of dropping wheel of track and have to come in to have the car checked dropping him to 8th in the final results. A special mention goes out to Dave Jones and Ira Nesbitt, 2 rookies to the series, who had a very close race long battle.
Group 2 Race 1:
Qualifying say a new face taking pole for their first race in the Series, Deyne Bentt. At the start it was Series veteran Tim Nichols taking the lead into turn 1 followed through by Glen Brooks and Joe Homa, which he would hold to the end comfortably. As equally impressive as Deyne was another rookie, Federico Mosconi who on lap 3 would take 2nd from Joe and be followed through by Glenn Brooks who would slot into 3rd. The top 4 would stay in these positions until on lap 7. On this Lap Glenn had an error and ended up spinning off course and having to serve a pit stop to check the car which would be compounded by a second spin on lap 9.  On lap 8 Federico would have to pit to check the car out for excessive dropping of wheels. Lurking close behind all the action and ready to take advantage of any mishaps was Zane Gibbs and Deyne who were have a close race of their own. On the last lap however Deyne got the upper hand on Zane to move up to 3rd.
Group 1 Race 2:
Race 2 saw a close 3 way battle for the lead between Kevin, Dave and Toulouse. Kevin would take the initial lead from Dave and starting from the 8th spot Toulouse started a charge that on lap 3 saw him in 3rd spot. Back at the battle for first, on lap 2 the lead of the race changed to be Dave taking the lead. Behind them would be Paul, Alastair and Andrea Giusti battling for 4th. On lap 9 the lead would change for the 3rd and final time with Toulouse passing Dave for 1st spot. Two laps later 2 key moments in the race would happen, Andrea would overtake Kevin for 3rd which would half a lap later be for 2nd when in turn 7 Dave would make a rare error and spin dropping him down the field. This would move Paul and Alastair up a spot but on lap 14 Paul would go off track at turn 5 and have to pit to check the car out dropping him down the order. In the end it was Toulouse taking the win and helping his championship run, followed by Andrea in 2nd, Kevin 3rd, Alastair 4th, and Dave in 5th.
Group 2 Race 2:
Group 2 saw a race that would be just as unpredictable. At the start it was again Tim leading but this time followed by Deyne, Joe, Zane and Mike Abboud. On lap 2 some contact between Mike and Federico saw Mike spin, on the same lap Federico would make his move to pass Zane for 4th, and on lap 5 pass Joe for 3rd. Glenn who started near the back was putting on a charge to the front and would get as high as 3rd. Toward the end of the race it seemed things would remain as they were until on lap 13 Tim would have a drive shaft failure drop him from the lead and handing it to Deyne, and on lap 16 Glenn would suffer a clutch failure. At the flag it was Deyne in 1st with his first race in the Series, 2nd was Federico, Skip woody who had a quiet day but was close when it mattered finish 3rd, Ben Corson, another rookie in the Series, took 4th, and Andy Ourant finished in 5th.

Bertil Roos Race Series: VIR South Track (Race 6)

Blakeslee, PA
August 11, 2011

On a raining August 6th morning in Virginia the Bertil Roos Race Series started its 6th event of the season and with the points shake up at NJMP in the previous event it was still all up for grabs.

Group 1 Race 1:
Coming off of a bad result in Event 5, Glenn Brooks rebounded to take pole for Group 1 followed by Kevin Anderson. At the start it was Glenn leading from Kevin and Alastair McEwan out of turn one. On lap 2 however Alastair would pass Kevin for 2nd and then Glenn for the lead with Kevin following past for 2nd. Behind them was a brief battle for 4th between Dave Long and Federico Mosconi with Dave getting the better of Federico on lap 2. Back at the front it was Alastair leading but under fire from Kevin who on lap 10 would pass for the lead and hold it to the end dropping Alastair to 2nd.

Group 2 Race 1:
Equally rebounding off of his performance from NJMP was Paul Alspach taking pole for Group 2. At the start Paul jumped into a lead he would hold for the rest of the race. Behind him however was a close battle for 2nd between Tim Nichols and Toulouse Lafond. On lap 3 Toulouse would make a move on Tim to take the 2nd spot and at that point the two would start to work together to try to catch Paul but that was not to happen and Paul would come out with the win.

Group 1 Race 2:
Race 2 saw Glenn get a great start and take the lead before turn 1 and proceed to open up a lead from there. Behind him it was Kevin First coming under fire from Alastair but with a spin and later a 4 wheels off penalty ended his chances and then Dave Long, who had been quiet all day but in typical fashion comes to the top when it counts. The two would start trading 2nd spot at lap 11 but would eventually be taken by Kevin. In the end it was Glenn taking the win and bolstering his points after NJMP, followed by Kevin in 2nd, Dave in 3rd, Alastair 4th, and Federico in 5th.

Group 2 Race 2:
At the start it was Toulouse getting the jump on Paul to take the lead into turn 1 with Tim following the two close in 3rd. On lap 2 however it was Paul back into the lead from Toulouse with Tim still very close and on lap 3 would pass for 2nd. From there Tim and Toulouse would work together to keep the gap as close as they could. However on lap 13 with the gap to the lead starting to grow the two would start to fight for 2nd with Toulouse taking the spot from Tim and holding it to the end. At the flag it was Paul adding to his championship run with the win, Toulouse in 2nd, Tim 3rd, Earl Ihrie with a quiet weekend in 4th and Robert Hirsch in 5th.
